Dear Affiliate Presidents and Vice Presidents,
At the onset of the pandemic, the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA) introduced the “We Care” grant program designed to assist state associations in their efforts to support their members. The initial program was a huge success and NRTA is able to continue the grant program for 2021. MEA-Retired participated last year and has been awarded funding for this year as well.
The MEA-Retired “We Care” grant committee is pleased to offer county affiliates the opportunity to access up to $100.00 to assist in their efforts to make connections with members who may be isolated, unwell, or just in need of a “pick me up”.
While we want to give affiliates the leeway to be creative, here are a few suggestions that may serve to get your creative juices flowing:
• Delivering a flower basket to shut-ins
• Purchasing a lunch and sharing it safely with a member who is afraid or unable to go to a
restaurant
• Sharing books
• Sending a note to a member
The possibilities are truly limitless!
Our goal is to make this process as easy as possible for county affiliates, while making sure that there is accountability for the funds.
Below you will find the application. Please work with your leadership team and submit the completed application as soon as possible. Once it’s received and approved, a check will be sent to the affiliate President.
On behalf of the MEA-Retired We Care Grant Committee, thank you for your efforts!
Sincerely,
Carl Bucciantini
MEA-Retired “We Care” Grant Committee Chair
